Funeral Services for Eartha McMillan Hayes will be held 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 29, 2011 in St. Paul Baptist Church with burial in Promised Land Cemetery.
Eartha Lee McMillan Hayes was born July 10, 1948 in Bamberg, South Carolina to Robert and the late Hermena McMillan, Sr. She departed this life on Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at her home.
Mrs. Hayes lived in Aiken, SC until she moved to Columbia in the late 1970's. She attended Martha Schofield High School in Aiken and Denmark Technical College in Denmark, SC, where she received a trade degree in Alterations. She was an employee of Belk for about 20 years, until her health began to fail.
An active member of St. Paul Baptist Church, she served on the Missionary Board, Pastor's Aide Committee, and the Usher Board. Before her health issues, she served diligently as President of the Usher Board; after which, she took over the role of Greeter.
Eartha leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Joseph Hayes of Columbia, SC; two loving children: her daughter, Sarah Hayes and her son, Robert Joseph Andre Hayes, both of Columbia, SC; her loving father, Robert McMillan, Sr. of Aiken, SC; one loving stepdaughter, Lisa Anderson of Columbia, SC; four sisters, Bobbie Bing, Revena McMillan, both of Aiken, SC and Eunice Johnson and Wilhelmenia Waddell, both of Louisville, KY; three brothers, Robert McMillan, Jr., James McMillan, and Herman McMillan, all of Louisville, KY; two step-grandchildren; and a host of nieces nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
